Katie was put to sleep at 11:45 A.M. on Friday, January 18, 2008, after a mercifully brief battle with kidney failure. It was only 3 days from the time we knew she was sick.
They usually have no symptoms until it's too late - at least 70% of kidney function is gone by then! Kidney failure is treatable if caught early enough. The only way to prevent a total shutdown without warning is to have cats' kidneys tested regularly starting when they turn 7 years old.
For more information, visit The Feline Chronic Renal Failure Information Center. If you don't, Katie will haunt you!
